This is not just a business, this personal. We are solving problems we experienced first-hand growing up in Kenya before getting an opportunity to study abroad and coming back with the resolve to build drones for good in 2012. We will inspire other African countries to develop their own solutions
The other firm that emerged in the top fifteen in the competition is Swift Lab a medical logistics company using drones to deliver critical medical supplies in remote hard to reach areas. They have developed two drones: a long-range drone that has a payload of 4kg and has a range of up to 70km and a short-range drone that caters to a small payload over a short distance and can carry 0.5kg payload for a period of 30 minutes. The drones are offering last-mile connectivity and transport of highly needed medical supplies.
Countrywide Innovation Hubs, is a Kenyan focal-point that is represented in 17 counties with 26 members across Kenya and still growing. Their main objective is to support and build sustainable businesses and startups across Kenyan counties as stated on their Twitter page. They provide opportunities for networking to innovators and assist them to turn their ideas into sustainable opportunities.
Last year, Countrywide Innovation Hubs together with Konza Technopolis posed the great COVID-19 innovation challenge, an online hackathon that was won by Swift lab among 15 start-up teams. In February 2021, they visited Swift Lab for a demo and a short presentation of our product. Countrywide Innovation Hubs has supported us by linking us with investors, and empowering our innovation through providing opportunities for us to network widely.
The future is Africa and to build more truly made in Kenya products. Together with support from Countrywide Innovation Hubs, we plan to keep providing drone services within our three verticals; medical logistics, agriculture & mapping and infrastructural inspection.
